I completed my BE in 2016 and now have 8 years of experience in India. I want to go abroad so would like to know if Opting for Abroad jobs is more favourable or doing MS and then searching for jobs is more favourable. I have experience in Customer Support. Right now I am head in customer support in my current company

Ans: It is easier to go abroad for studies. In that case can look at further education abroad. In the meantime also look out for jobs abroad, just in case you land up with some good job.

Dear Ashwini ji, I returned from Gulf after a decade, my work was partially data analysis using advanced excel. Now, I am 40, unemployed, almost about to complete online Msc in data science from an indian university (now I am almost well versed with different tools). Should I start looking for work in India now?, with a cut throat competition, if I am lucky I'll end up with a fresher salary! Or should I go for another masters in Germany (cost ain't issue), return to India and then look for job? Firstly, what if after 2 years (I'll be older!) market conditions are worse? Secondly, I had earlier career gaps, so even after masters from Germany, I am guessing major MNCs wont ever consider me? Waiting your answers.
Ans: Hi Sir/ Madam,

Sorry for the delay in the response.

Given the current situation it contains several factors hence you will have to consider your goal, market conditions and your own preferences. There is no direct solution and importantly it has to be your own decision.

As you have already completed MSC Data science (niche field) please check the current market situation.
Speak to experts in the similar industry and do your own assessment.
Before joining MSC course you would have thought of something why you want to pursue the same. What is the goal you have in mind.
Before pursuing the course in germany understand that it will involve cost and time. Again what is the goal of doing.
On the career gaps you mentioned- be prepared on the responses by having some rational around the same as to why you have those gaps. Responses should be compelling.

While they say age is just a number it does have its own cons during job hunt. Be realistic, practical and do pros and cons either ways. At the end the decision should be yours alone depending on your personal circumstances and career goals.

Hope this helps

Dear Mr Mayank ,my daughter presently pursuing B Tech-CS (AI/ML) from SRM Chennai -in 2nd year at present -we are in two minds as to doing MS abroad or take up campus job if possible after passout -MS abroad obviously would be finicially challenging so i thought at least she can work for say 2 years to begin with & then .Could you be able to offer some advice on the same.
Ans: Hello Sougata,

To begin with, thank you for contacting us. I am happy to hear that your daughter is currently pursuing the second year of her Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science (AI/ML). To answer your question first, I would like to tell you that deciding whether to begin working after earning a Bachelor’s degree in B.Tech- CS (AI/ML) or to go abroad for a Masters program can be a big decision. I would recommend that your daughter considers the following:

Firstly, I would suggest that you motivate your daughter to consider her professional objectives and ambitions. Consider whether she intends working in industry or pursuing research and academia. Remember that specialized information and possibilities for research can be offered through a Masters degree. A job on the contrary, can offer hands-on experience and skill advancement. Next, I would recommend that you investigate the AI/ML labor market both, locally and globally. Ascertain whether professionals with a Masters degree are highly sought-after or if pertinent work experience is equally valued. Coming to monetary considerations, bear in mind that finances play a key role in decision-making. Evaluate the cost of pursuing a Masters degree overseas taking into account the tuition costs, living costs, and any possible monetary assistance or scholarships. I would suggest that you compare this to the possible pay from an entry-level job post graduation or from a job on campus. Remember that significant networking possibilities as well as exposure to varied viewpoints, cultures, and technological advancements are offered by studying overseas. I would suggest that you think about the long-term advantages of developing a worldwide professional network and acquiring overseas experience. As the next step, I would recommend that you explore whether your daughter’s institution or future employers offer any possibilities for industry linkages or alliances. Bear in mind that besides improving her employment opportunities, these contacts can also offer insightful knowledge of the field. Motivate your daughter to consider her goals for personal development. Studying overseas can promote independence, flexibility and cultural understanding. Working, on the other hand, can provide useful skills and advance one’s career. Lastly, the choice should best resonate with your daughter’s personal objectives, ambitions, and financial circumstances. Prior to making a decision, I would recommend that your daughter gets in touch with mentors, employment consultants, former students, as well as industry experts to acquire new viewpoints and insights.

I have 142 marks in MET and 76% in boards. Is it possible for me to get in CSE ( or any specialization like AI/ML or financial technology ) at the main campus? If not should I go for Bengluru campus?
Ans: Sneh, With 142 MET marks (expected rank ~2,001–4,500) and 76% in boards, admission to CSE, AI/ML, or Financial Technology at MIT Manipal (main campus) is unlikely, as the 2024 closing ranks for these branches were CSE: 1,633, AI/ML: 2,255, and Financial Tech: 3,189. However, MIT Bengaluru offers viable alternatives, with 2024 cutoffs of CSE: 5,687, AI/ML: 7,244, and Financial Tech: 9,116, all within your rank range. While the main campus remains competitive, Bengaluru provides comparable academic rigor and industry exposure, albeit with marginally lower placement averages. During MET counselling, prioritize CSE at Bengaluru or specialized branches like AI/ML/Financial Tech as achievable options. If preferring Manipal, explore non-CSE branches (e.g., IT, Electronics) with lower cutoffs (~4,500–5,148) or monitor spot rounds for potential vacancies. Your board percentage meets the eligibility criteria (50% PCM), so strategically rank preferences during counselling to optimize admission prospects. Bengaluru serves as a strong backup with aligned opportunities, ensuring a balance between campus reputation and program accessibility.

I recently passed out by scoring 94.6% in 12th Boards and i applied to Christ University central campus for bcom(finance and investment) even tho after a good interview and a decent entrance test i got waitlisted till June 4th do I stand a chance? (this was the last round for central) just as a backup i applied to yeshwantpur campus for the same course even tho the interview was good and entrance went well I again got waitlisted which made me so demotivated do I even stand a chance what's even gonna happen in a week's time?i just hate this waiting period will i even get in? (preference-central campus)
Ans: With 94.6% in Class 12 and strong interview/entrance performance, your chances for B.Com (Finance & Investment) at Christ University’s Central Campus are limited but possible if seats open from withdrawals (historically 5–10% waitlist conversion). The Yeshwanthpur Campus offers better waitlist odds (15–20%), though updates may delay until late June. Monitor the portal daily for last-minute vacancies and proactively contact admissions to reaffirm interest. However, relying solely on Christ is risky—explore backups like St. Joseph’s, Mount Carmel, Jain University, or NMIMS, which offer similar programs with June/July application deadlines. Diversifying options ensures security amid uncertainty while awaiting Christ’s final decision. Stay persistent but pragmatic—prepare alternate plans to avoid gaps in admission timelines. All the BEST for your Admission & Prosperous Future!

My brother's son completed BTech ECE from GITAM Hyderabad in 2025. He couldn't get campus placement and his CGPA is near 7.5. He is having the following options 1. Prepare for GATE 2. Enrol for VLSI design course and look for placement through the institute 3. Prepare for competitive recruitment exams conducted by SSC RRB IBPS etc. Kindly guide. I suggested him option 3
Ans: With a 7.5 CGPA in ECE from GITAM Hyderabad, your nephew’s options include GATE preparation, VLSI specialization, or government exams (SSC/RRB/IBPS). GATE offers pathways to PSU jobs (e.g., AAI, ECIL) or MTech programs, though competition is intense, requiring 6–8 months of dedicated preparation. While his CGPA may limit top-tier PSU opportunities, mid-tier PSUs like NLC India or Power Grid could be feasible with a strong GATE score (600+ for ECE). VLSI courses (e.g., Takshila, ChipEdge) provide industry-aligned training in chip design/verification, with placement support (avg. entry salary: ?3–4 LPA, rising to ?7–15 LPA in product firms after 3+ years). This path leverages his ECE background but requires course fees and focused skill-building. Government exams (SSC JE/RRB JE) offer stable roles in railways, PWD, or utilities, though these jobs may prioritize civil/mechanical streams, limiting ECE-specific roles. SSC JE eligibility includes a diploma/degree and age limits (up to 32 years for General), with exams testing general aptitude and technical knowledge. While government jobs ensure security, they may not fully utilize his technical expertise. Recommendation: If he seeks core technical roles, prioritize VLSI courses for immediate industry entry. For research/PSU opportunities, opt for GATE. If job stability is paramount, government exams are viable but may require compromising on specialization. A hybrid approach (e.g., VLSI training + light SSC prep) balances skill development and backup options. All the BEST for your Nephew's Admission & Prosperous Future!
